Privacy Policy
STEADY is built so that your preparedness data does not need to leave your phone. This page explains what stays on the device, the two cases where information is sent somewhere, and what you can do about it.
1. What stays on your device
Everything you enter in the app is stored locally, in the app's own storage:
- Household profile: number of adults, children and pets, home type, scenarios you selected, planning horizon, optional notes about needs.
- Supplies inventory: item names, quantities, units, expiry dates and flags you set.
- Plan: meeting point, out-of-area contact, review notes and checklist progress.
- Contacts you type by hand. The app does not read your address book.
- Saved guides and settings such as units.
None of this is uploaded to us. There is no account, no login and no sync between devices. If your operating system backs up apps (iCloud Backup, Google Backup), this data may be included in that backup under Apple's or Google's terms.
2. The offline library
Guides, tips, recipes and glossary entries ship inside the app. Searching and reading them happens on the device. The app may check our server for an updated content pack when it is online; that request contains no personal data beyond what any web request carries (IP address, app version).
3. Purchases
Full access and scan packs are sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple or Google; we never see them.
We use RevenueCat to verify purchases and restore them across reinstalls. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier generated on your device, your store receipts and basic device information (platform, app version, locale). See RevenueCat's privacy policy. We do not link this identifier to your name or email because we do not have them.
4. Photo scan
The photo scan feature is optional. When you use it:
- The photo you take or choose is resized on your device and sent to our server over an encrypted connection.
- Our server forwards it to Anthropic's API to recognize supplies and return a structured list. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not permit training on API inputs.
- We do not store the photo. We keep a scan ledger keyed by the anonymous identifier above: timestamp, number of items detected, token counts and whether a free scan or a paid credit was used. This is what makes credits and refunds of failed scans work.
Take photos of shelves and supplies, not of people or documents. If you prefer not to send any image, type items by hand; the feature is never required.
5. What we do not do
- No analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
- No location access, no contacts access, no microphone.
- No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties for their own purposes.
- No profiling or automated decisions about you.
6. Notifications
If you turn on reminders (for example, an item expiring), they are scheduled locally on your device. We do not run a push notification server.
7. Children
STEADY is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The household profile asks for counts of children by age band, never names.
8. Deleting your data
Settings → Delete all my data erases your household, supplies, contacts and plan from the device. Uninstalling the app does the same. To have your scan ledger entries deleted on our server, contact us with the anonymous identifier shown in Settings; we will remove them within 30 days.
9. Security
Connections to our server use HTTPS. The server stores no photos and no personal identifiers beyond the anonymous app user id. Local data is protected by your device's own security (passcode, encryption).
10. International transfers
Our server and the AI provider operate in the United States. By using the photo scan feature you agree that the image is processed there.
11. Changes
We will update this page when the app's data handling changes and update the date at the top. Material changes will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
